Google Expands AI Partnership With Intel, Adopts New Xeon Chips for Data Centers

Google has continued expanding its data-center computing capacity to support generative AI services while working with Intel to improve server architecture. Since 2022, the companies have jointly developed infrastructure processing units, or IPUs, which offload networking, storage and other tasks from the main CPU to improve overall efficiency.

Google most recently announced that it would use Intel Xeon 6 server processors in its AI data centers to support AI model training and inference, while expanding deployments of several Xeon products. The companies did not disclose the purchase value or deployment timetable, but confirmed that they would continue the IPU partnership launched in 2022 to reduce the workload on main CPUs.
