Claude Builds Bluetooth Tracker to Help Engineer Find Lost Phone
Companies commonly use mobile device management, or MDM, to restrict functions on employee devices and reduce security risks, but those controls can also disable consumer recovery services such as Apple’s Find My. The episode highlights how Anthropic’s Claude can generate a narrowly tailored utility on demand, lowering the time, cost and technical friction involved in building one-off software for an immediate problem.
After losing a phone in an office, an engineer discovered that the employer’s MDM settings had disabled Find My and turned to Claude for an alternative. The model produced a Bluetooth signal-strength tracking tool in about one minute, allowing the engineer to follow changes in the nearby device’s signal and recover the handset. The report did not disclose the incident date, the employer’s name or the phone model.
