Taiwan Cybersecurity Institute Warns of Rising Investment Scams
Taiwan’s National Institute of Cyber Security has warned that online financial and investment scams pose a growing threat to household finances. Fraud rings typically attract targets with low-barrier offers before shifting conversations into private messages, where claims are harder to verify. Promises of unusually high returns and artificial scarcity are used to pressure potential victims into acting before checking the source or investment credentials.
The institute’s latest weekly cybersecurity report said financial and investment schemes had recorded a significant rebound in their share of high-risk online scams, with the largest increase among the categories tracked. The information released for the event did not specify the reporting date, exact share or percentage-point gain. Common lures included free giveaways, limited-time access lists and high-return pitches, prompting officials to urge greater scrutiny before transferring funds.
