U.S. Banking Groups Target 2027 Launch for Nationwide Blockchain
A coalition representing 37 U.S. state bankers associations is seeking to give banks greater control over blockchain infrastructure, reducing their reliance on a concentrated group of core banking technology vendors. The initiative would let participating institutions develop and govern smart contracts, digital-asset services and on-chain transaction processes, while creating shared tools for uses such as protecting elderly customers from fraud.
The banking groups plan to launch a nationwide, bank-focused blockchain network in 2027. The proposed platform is intended to support jointly governed development rather than leaving critical technology and product decisions to legacy system providers. Initial applications could include programmable controls that identify or stop suspicious transfers involving older customers, alongside new transaction and asset-management workflows built directly by banks.
