AegisAI Raises $36 Million to Fight AI-Driven Spear Phishing

1 reports · First detected 2026-07-24 · Last active 2026-07-24

AegisAI was founded by former Google security executives Cy Khormaee and Ryan Luo, who worked on Safe Browsing and reCAPTCHA. The startup is targeting a widening email-security gap as generative AI lets attackers produce personalized spear-phishing campaigns at greater speed and scale. Its autonomous AI agents inspect message content, links, attachments, metadata and behavioral signals, then coordinate to identify and quarantine phishing, malware and business email compromise before malicious messages reach users’ inboxes.

AegisAI said on July 23, 2026, that it raised $36 million in a Series A led by Battery Ventures, lifting total funding to $49 million. The company plans to use the proceeds to expand product development and its go-to-market operation as enterprises seek defenses against AI-generated attacks. AegisAI said its technology is already being used by customers including Mesh and LangChain, providing commercial validation for an approach that replaces static email rules with real-time AI investigation and response.
