Weak Yen Drives Japanese Companies to Add Bitcoin and XRP for Treasury Diversification

3 reports · First detected 2026-07-07 · Last active 2026-07-08

The yen’s slide toward a nearly four-decade low, coupled with a widening U.S.-Japan interest-rate gap, has increased the purchasing-power risk and opportunity cost of holding cash in yen. Japanese companies are consequently adding Bitcoin and XRP to their treasury allocations and shareholder reward programs through SBI VC Trade, a unit of SBI Holdings. Expanding access to regulated trading and stablecoins is also making it easier for companies and retail investors to enter the market.

On July 7, 2026, SBI VC Trade said the combined number of VCTRADE and BITPOINT accounts had surpassed 2 million, double the 2025 level. The company merged with BitPoint Japan in April and expects to complete integration by the end of December. Bitcoin traded at about $62,650 on July 7, up 6.1% for the week. SBI also listed RLUSD and the yen-denominated stablecoin JPYSC in June.
