Iran Demands Immediate Release of 50% of Frozen Assets in U.S. Reconciliation Deal, Including $1 Billion in Crypto
Iran has long faced U.S. sanctions, with some sovereign assets and cryptocurrencies suspected of being used to evade sanctions frozen. Negotiations over a U.S.-Iran reconciliation memorandum therefore extend beyond diplomatic de-escalation to Iran’s access to funds, stablecoin regulation and Middle East energy markets, making the issue a key hurdle to building mutual trust.
Iran’s Foreign Ministry has most recently demanded that the United States immediately unfreeze at least 50% of Iran’s sovereign assets upon the signing of a U.S.-Iran reconciliation memorandum, including nearly $1 billion in crypto assets and 344 million USDT on the TRON blockchain. Reports did not provide an exact date for the negotiations or the asset release. Regional conflict remains unresolved, with Iran having launched missiles and WTI crude prices rebounding nearly 3%.
