Unlimit Secures Hong Kong Licence to Accelerate Asia-Pacific Expansion
Asia-Pacific’s payments market is fragmented across currencies, domestic rails and regulatory regimes, raising costs for companies expanding across borders. Unlimit, founded in 2009 and headquartered in San Francisco and London, operates a proprietary network spanning more than 180 countries. Establishing Hong Kong as a regional hub gives the financial infrastructure provider a base in the world’s fourth-largest foreign-exchange centre, strengthening its ability to connect local payment channels with cross-border commerce.
Unlimit said on Sept. 10, 2026, it had obtained a money service operator licence from Hong Kong’s Commissioner of Customs and Excise, enabling it to add local payment channels for businesses across Asia-Pacific. Hong Kong’s average daily foreign-exchange turnover reached $883 billion in April 2025, up 27% from April 2022. The rollout will be led by Michele Fung, whom Unlimit appointed Head of APAC on Feb. 13, 2026, to build partnerships and expand in high-potential markets.

The history behind this eventMoneyGram CEO Sees Invisible Blockchain Powering Cross-Border Payments
MoneyGram is modernizing the infrastructure behind its global remittance network with blockchain technology, seeking to make cross-border transfers faster and less expensive without forcing customers to navigate crypto products. Chief Executive Anthony Soohoo said the technology works best when it fades into the background, improving settlement and the user experience while preserving the familiar process of sending and receiving money.
Soohoo said MoneyGram is expanding its work with blockchain networks including Stellar and Solana as it builds out digital payment capabilities. The company also plans to use its MGUSD stablecoin to broaden its financial product lineup, extending its blockchain strategy beyond remittance rails. The approach is designed to deliver lower-cost, quicker transfers while keeping the underlying technology largely invisible to users.
