Novo Nordisk, AWS Bring Agentic AI to Drug Discovery

Drug discovery requires repeated cycles between target identification, molecular design and laboratory validation, with handoffs between computational researchers and bench scientists often slowing progress. Novo Nordisk, a leading maker of diabetes and obesity medicines, is betting that agentic AI — systems capable of planning and carrying out multistep tasks — can tighten that loop. The partnership matters as pharmaceutical companies increasingly use cloud computing and AI to reduce costly early-stage research timelines while retaining human scientific oversight.

Novo Nordisk and Amazon Web Services announced the strategic partnership on Aug. 10, 2026, naming AWS the drugmaker’s preferred cloud provider and strategic AI partner. A co-innovation hub at Novo Nordisk’s existing London facility will pair scientists and engineers from both companies, using tools including Amazon Bio Discovery and Amazon Bedrock to advance target identification and therapeutic design. The companies aim to compress the path from a drug target to a first human dose. They disclosed no financial terms or partnership duration.
