Five Eyes Warns AI Is Accelerating Cyberattack Threats

2 reports · First detected 2026-06-23 · Last active 2026-06-23

The Five Eyes is an intelligence-sharing alliance comprising the United States, Britain, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. Frontier AI can automatically identify vulnerabilities, generate exploits and scale up attacks, while also helping detect anomalies and patch systems. As both offensive and defensive capabilities accelerate, cybersecurity is shifting from an IT issue to an operational and financial risk that boards must oversee.

On June 22, 2026, Australia's ACSC, Canada's CCCS, New Zealand's NCSC, Britain's NCSC, and the U.S. NSA and CISA issued a joint statement warning that the threat landscape is evolving by the month, not the year. The statement gave no budget figures and did not name Anthropic or OpenAI. It called on organizations to reduce their attack surfaces, accelerate patching, retire legacy systems, strengthen identity and access controls, rehearse incident response plans and use AI to improve defenses.
