Flying Tulip Launches DeFi Withdrawal Circuit Breaker

4 reports · First detected 2026-04-23 · Last active 2026-04-23

Flying Tulip is a DeFi platform led by Yearn Finance founder Andre Cronje. Attacks on Drift Protocol and Kelp in April 2026 caused estimated losses of about $280 million and $293 million, respectively. The incidents highlighted how risks have spread beyond smart contract vulnerabilities to multisignature systems, signers and off-chain infrastructure, fueling debate over whether protocols should use human controls to protect funds.

Flying Tulip launched a withdrawal circuit breaker on April 23, 2026. When abnormal outflows exceed capacity, Perpetual PUT withdrawals are returned and users can retry later, while ftUSD withdrawals are queued for later collection. The mechanism provides about six hours to respond and uses a “fail-open” design, allowing transactions to proceed if the protective component fails. A real-time status page lets users monitor the system.
