European Banks and Companies Step Up Stablecoin Adoption, Partner Selection
The European Union’s Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCA) has established consistent rules across member states, allowing banks to integrate stablecoins into the existing financial system. Taurus co-founder Lamine Brahimi said the industry was still assessing risks 18 months ago, but some institutions have now secured board approval and are preparing to launch services. Corporate treasury departments also hope to accelerate cross-border payments and settlement, cut costs and operate beyond banking hours.
On April 9, 2026, ClearBank Europe became the first Dutch credit institution authorized as a MiCA crypto-asset service provider. Paybis data show that USDC transaction volume increased 109% between October 2025 and March 2026, while its share of stablecoin activity rose from 13% to 32%. Purchases were five to six times sales, and the average transaction was 15% to 35% larger than for Bitcoin or Ether.
