Fake Uniswap Ads Appear on Google Search, Netting Scammers More Than $400,000
Uniswap is a major decentralized exchange in the Ethereum ecosystem, allowing users to trade assets by connecting their crypto wallets directly. Scammers bought Google Search ads impersonating the brand, directing users to fake websites and tricking them into authorizing transfers. The scheme highlights how paid search rankings can be exploited as a gateway to steal on-chain assets.
Blockchain analysts recently found fake Uniswap ads in Google search results, with funds stolen from multiple wallets after users connected them. The scammers have made at least $400,000 so far, including about $300,000 in Ether. Separate data show that related fake-ad attacks stole about $1.27 million over a two-week period in March.
