APDCA Launches SDIA Sustainability Accord as Generative AI Strains Power Resources

The rapid expansion of generative AI and high-performance computing is increasing pressure on data centers' electricity and water use as well as equipment replacement. The Asia Pacific Data Centre Association (APDCA) is therefore promoting the Sustainable Digital Infrastructure Accord (SDIA), a common framework across markets aimed at improving energy efficiency, expanding clean energy use and incorporating water conservation and circular-economy requirements. The initiative seeks to make the region's digital infrastructure lower-carbon and more resilient.

APDCA's newly released SDIA identifies energy efficiency, clean energy, water conservation and the circular economy as its four main areas for action, responding to the resource challenges created by surging demand for generative AI computing.
