Taiwan's FSC Plans Oversight of Crypto Influencers' Token Promotions

2 reports · First detected 2026-03-25 · Last active 2026-03-26

Taiwan's Financial Supervisory Commission is advancing a draft virtual asset service law and a regulatory regime for virtual asset service providers, or VASPs. Crypto key opinion leaders, or KOLs, often promote tokens and direct social-media users to trading platforms without necessarily being subject to traditional financial advertising rules. Regulating such promotions could clarify responsibility for advertising, solicitation and marketing while reducing risks to investors from inadequate disclosure of financial interests.

The FSC most recently said it would use subordinate regulations authorized under the Financial Consumer Protection Act to govern crypto KOLs' involvement in virtual asset advertising, solicitation and promotion. As of July 19, 2026, the regulator had not announced the regulations' effective date, penalties or applicable thresholds. It plans to complete the regulatory framework alongside the draft virtual asset service law and the VASP regime.
