Chunghwa Telecom, Fujitsu and 1Finity Advance Taiwan’s All-Photonics Network

All-Photonics Network technology carries communications end to end as optical signals, avoiding electrical conversion to deliver higher capacity, lower latency and reduced power use. Chunghwa Telecom and Fujitsu tested an APN based on the IOWN concept in Taiwan from 2024 to 2026. The technology is gaining importance as AI and cloud computing drive heavier data traffic, energy demand and the need for resilient links between data centers.

Chunghwa Telecom Co., Ltd., Fujitsu Limited and Fujitsu network subsidiary 1Finity Inc. announced a new two-year memorandum of understanding on July 22, 2026, without disclosing an investment value. The companies will use Chunghwa Telecom’s submarine cable systems to verify APN technology and the feasibility of distributed data centers. They will also assess quantum technologies for network-control security, seeking to build high-capacity, low-power digital infrastructure for AI workloads.
