Tether’s XAUt Wins Shariah Certification to Expand Islamic Finance Access

1 reports · First detected 2026-07-28 · Last active 2026-07-28

Islamic finance bars riba, or interest, and restricts excessive speculation and transactions without clear asset ownership, making custody and backing central to the acceptance of tokenized gold. Tether Gold, issued by TG Commodities, S.A. de C.V., gives holders direct ownership of bullion stored in Swiss vaults. Each full XAUt token represents one fine troy ounce of gold on a London Good Delivery bar, combining physical ownership with blockchain-based transferability.

Tether said on July 27, 2026, that XAUt had received Shariah compliance certification from Amanah Advisors, led by Mufti Faraz Adam. The review confirmed 100% physical-gold backing, verifiable ownership and a structure without interest, leverage or speculative derivatives; no transaction value was disclosed. Tether expects the certification to support expansion among Islamic banks, institutions and individuals in Gulf Cooperation Council countries, South Asia and parts of Africa, while Amanah Advisors helps develop governance guidelines for secondary-market purchases.

ADGM Recognizes Tether Gold as Accepted Spot Commodity2026-07-21 · 2 reports · similarity 0.85

Tether Gold, issued by TG Commodities Limited, is a blockchain-based asset designed to provide ownership of physical bullion. Each full XAU₮ token represents one fine troy ounce of gold on a London Good Delivery bar. Its inclusion in Abu Dhabi Global Market’s spot-commodity framework is significant because it gives regulated financial firms a clearer route to serve institutional demand for tokenized gold as distributed real-world assets surpass $31 billion globally.

Tether said on July 20, 2026, that ADGM had recognized XAU₮ as an Accepted Spot Commodity. Firms operating in the Abu Dhabi financial center may offer services involving the token if they hold the relevant regulatory permissions and obtain approval to use accepted spot commodities. The decision follows the Financial Services Regulatory Authority’s earlier recognition of Tether’s USD₮ as an Accepted Fiat-Referenced Token. Tokenized real-world assets have expanded from about $6.6 billion a year earlier.
