OpenAI Expands ChatGPT for Teachers to 55 More U.S. School Systems

OpenAI launched ChatGPT for Teachers in 2025 as a secure, managed workspace for U.S. K-12 educators, combining AI tools with training and technical support for lesson planning and administrative work. As generative AI moves from informal classroom experimentation to district-wide deployment, privacy safeguards, clear usage policies and teacher training have become central to adoption at scale.

OpenAI said on Aug. 26, 2026, that it is extending the program to 55 additional school systems across 20 states, reaching more than 100,000 educators and staff. The expansion brings its footprint to over 100 K-12 organizations in 30 states and more than 300,000 people. ChatGPT for Teachers will remain free for verified U.S. K-12 educators through June 2028, while a new data-privacy agreement spanning 16 states establishes a common evaluation framework for districts.
