X Product Chief Nikita Bier Steps Down, Moves to Adviser Role

Nikita Bier joined X as head of product on June 30, 2025, as Elon Musk sought to revive growth and expand the social-media platform following his $44 billion acquisition of Twitter in October 2022. Bier brought a record of building youth-focused social apps, including tbh and Gas, which were acquired by Facebook and Discord, respectively. His appointment placed a specialist in viral consumer growth at the center of X’s push to improve engagement and broaden its product offering.

Bier said on Aug. 5, 2026, that he was stepping down after more than a year in the role and would remain with X as an adviser. He said the product team shipped nearly 30 features during his tenure and sharply improved the app’s rankings. Musk responded that Bier would be missed. Senior members of the existing product organization are expected to take over day-to-day leadership and continue work on user growth, creator tools and platform development.
