Taiwan’s Six Cities Showcase AI-Driven Sustainability Projects

Taiwan’s six special municipalities are using the Asia-Pacific Sustainability Expo to highlight how artificial intelligence, internet-connected sensors and cloud platforms can support greener urban governance. The projects show local governments expanding digital tools beyond administrative efficiency into heat adaptation, pollution monitoring and climate resilience, areas becoming more important as cities face rising environmental and public-service pressures.

At the latest expo, Taipei showcased the use of AI in public services and a cooling map designed to help residents cope with extreme heat. New Taipei outlined plans to deploy generative AI in an air-pollution protection system aimed at sharply reducing warning and response times. Taichung, Tainan and other municipalities also presented applications combining AI, the Internet of Things and cloud technology for sustainable city management.
