Samsung Starts Trial Operations at Texas 2-Nanometer Fab, Targets AI Chip Orders from NVIDIA and AMD

Samsung Electronics announced a $17 billion investment in 2021 to build a semiconductor fab in Taylor, Texas, strengthening its advanced-process capacity through local production. As demand for AI chips rises, the site has become a key base for Samsung Foundry to challenge TSMC’s U.S. operations and pursue major American customers.

The Taylor fab recently began trial operations for its 2-nanometer process. Samsung Electronics plans to begin risk production in 2026 and enter full-scale mass production in 2027. The company is targeting AI chip orders from customers including NVIDIA, AMD and Tesla, putting it in direct competition with TSMC’s U.S. fabs for advanced-node foundry business.
