Microsoft to Invest $10 Billion in Japan’s AI Infrastructure and Cybersecurity Partnerships

Japan’s government and businesses are accelerating their adoption of generative AI, but high-performance computing resources, data-center capacity and cybersecurity safeguards remain crucial to further expansion. Microsoft’s increased investment targets the Japanese market, combining stronger local AI infrastructure with workforce development and corporate partnerships to help improve Japan’s digital competitiveness and supply-chain resilience.

Microsoft said it would invest $10 billion in Japan from 2026 through 2029 to expand AI computing and cloud infrastructure and deepen cybersecurity cooperation. The initiative will work with Japanese companies including SoftBank to boost computing capacity while expanding AI skills training, with a goal of developing 1 million AI professionals by 2030.
