Microsoft Unifies Commercial and Consumer Copilot Teams in AI Overhaul
Microsoft has long divided Copilot between its enterprise-focused Microsoft 365 services and consumer products such as chat and search, leaving teams and capabilities fragmented. As competition intensifies with OpenAI, Google and Anthropic, integrating its products, platforms, applications and models could unify the user experience and R&D resources while improving the efficiency of its AI commercialization efforts.
On March 17, 2026, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella announced the merger of its commercial and consumer Copilot operations. Former Snap executive Jacob Andreou was promoted to executive vice president and will report directly to Nadella. The new organization comprises four pillars: Copilot experiences, the Copilot platform, Microsoft 365 applications and AI models. The move is an internal reorganization, and no related financial details were disclosed.
