GlobalWafers Chair Urges Taiwan to Build Trusted Chip Ecosystem

The artificial intelligence boom is accelerating demand for advanced chips, memory and semiconductor materials while putting pressure on computing capacity and electricity supplies. GlobalWafers Chairwoman Doris Hsu said Taiwan’s competitive edge extends beyond manufacturing expertise to an integrated semiconductor ecosystem that has earned the trust of international customers, an increasingly important asset as governments and companies reassess critical technology supply chains.

Hsu said chipmakers should diversify production across countries to withstand geopolitical disruption and uncertainty over global tariff policies. Taiwan should also deepen cooperation among domestic materials suppliers to reinforce a trusted and resilient semiconductor supply chain, she said. GlobalWafers did not disclose a new investment amount or implementation timetable in connection with the remarks, which outlined a broader strategy for responding to AI-driven growth and geopolitical risk.
