Crypto Payments Expected to Shift to Onchain Credit, Replacing Traditional Debit-Style Crypto Cards
Most crypto debit cards currently sell Bitcoin, Ether or stablecoins when a payment is made, then settle the transaction through traditional card networks. Users may therefore incur capital gains tax and forgo future returns on those assets. Superform co-founder Vikram Arun views such products as a transitional bridge between crypto assets and existing payment networks.
Arun has recently proposed replacing debit-style crypto cards with onchain credit. Users could spend against onchain assets pledged as collateral or used as the basis for credit, without selling them and while retaining ownership and potential returns. Reports have not disclosed a launch date, credit limits, interest rates or partner institutions. For now, the concept remains a forecast about the industry’s direction.
