Google Chrome Launches Skills, Deepening Gemini AI Integration to Streamline Prompt Execution

6 reports · First detected 2026-04-15 · Last active 2026-04-23

Google is continuing to embed Gemini into Chrome rather than keeping it as a standalone chat service, seeking to turn search, comparison and document-processing tasks for the browser’s roughly 3.5 billion users worldwide into AI-powered workflows. Skills saves frequently used prompts as reusable tools, lowering the barrier to adoption and further transforming Chrome from an information gateway into a task-execution platform.

Google launched Skills on April 14, 2026. Users can save prompts from their Gemini in Chrome conversation history or choose from a built-in skills library, then invoke them with a single click using “/” or “+” and apply them to the current page and selected tabs. The feature carries no separately listed fee and is initially available to Mac, Windows and ChromeOS desktop users whose Chrome language is set to English (United States).
