Korea Investment & Securities to Take Coinone Stake as Traditional Finance Giants Accelerate Web3 Push
Coinone is one of South Korea's five registered virtual-asset exchanges and ranks third by trading volume. Mirae Asset Consulting, part of Mirae Asset Group, agreed on February 13, 2026, to acquire a 92.06% stake in Korbit for 133.5 billion won, spurring Korea Investment & Securities to accelerate its expansion. The race could determine which brokerage first integrates crypto trading, stablecoins and security tokens.
On May 29, 2026, Coinone signed a strategic investment agreement with Korea Investment & Securities and OKX Ventures. Each will invest 80 billion won, or about $53 million, for a 19.6% stake, bringing their combined investment to 160 billion won and their total holding to 39.2%. The deal remains subject to regulatory approval. Once completed, the two investors will be tied as Coinone's third-largest shareholders, behind CEO Cha Myung-hoon and the Com2uS Holdings group.
