Former CFPB Enforcement Chiefs Launch Public Interest Law Firm as Financial Firms Revamp Leadership
Former Consumer Financial Protection Bureau enforcement chief Eric Halperin and two other former officials helped secure more than $9.5 billion in consumer redress and penalties during their time at the agency. Their new public interest law firm marks an extension of regulatory expertise into the private sector. Meanwhile, financial institutions including Ally Financial and Provident Bank are grappling with technology transformation and operational compliance challenges.
In mid-July 2026, the three former CFPB officials formally launched the HPM public interest law firm. That month, digital financial institution Ally Financial named Mark Mathewson chief information and data officer, effective July 20. Provident Bank also appointed Anthony Petrazzuoli director of deposit and payment operations on July 15.
