Perplexity Launches AI Tax-Filing Agent Computer for Taxes
Perplexity, which began as an AI search engine, is expanding generative AI beyond answering questions to handling complex, high-stakes tax work. U.S. federal income tax filing involves Internal Revenue Service (IRS) forms and personal financial data, making the tool’s ability to interpret documents accurately, protect privacy and establish clear accountability an important test of AI agents in financial services.
Perplexity recently launched Computer for Taxes for U.S. users filing federal returns for the 2026 tax year. The system reviews financial documents supplied by users, organizes income and deductions, and automatically drafts IRS tax forms. The company has not disclosed an exact launch date, pricing or the range of forms the tool can process. For now, it is positioned as a drafting aid rather than a replacement for taxpayers’ final review and submission.
