S&P Global Agrees to Acquire OpenZeppelin in Onchain Risk Push
S&P Global is a major provider of credit ratings, benchmarks and financial-market data, while OpenZeppelin has supplied open-source smart-contract libraries, security assessments and development services since 2015. The acquisition matters as stablecoins, tokenized funds and other capital-market products move onto blockchains, creating demand for risk analysis that covers not only financial instruments but also the code and infrastructure underpinning them.
S&P Global said on Sept. 17, 2026, that it had agreed to acquire OpenZeppelin, without disclosing the purchase price or other financial terms. The transaction remains subject to closing conditions and is not expected to materially affect S&P Global’s financial results. OpenZeppelin will retain its name and operate as a separate business unit; its Contracts libraries have underpinned more than $37 trillion in value transfers, and the company has completed over 900 security engagements.
