Jack Dorsey’s Square Auto-Enables Bitcoin Payments for Millions of U.S. Merchants

4 reports · First detected 2026-03-31 · Last active 2026-04-04

Jack Dorsey’s payments platform Square has long sought to bring Bitcoin into everyday commerce and is now extending the service to millions of small businesses across the United States. Customers’ Bitcoin payments are converted into U.S. dollars immediately at checkout, reducing merchants’ exposure to price volatility and eliminating the need to custody crypto assets or operate a crypto wallet.

Square recently began auto-enabling Bitcoin point-of-sale payments ahead of schedule for eligible U.S. merchants, allowing businesses to accept them without applying separately. The platform is also waiving transaction fees from the activation date through December 31, 2026. The offer lowers the adoption barrier at no additional cost and is intended to accelerate Bitcoin’s integration into mainstream payments.
