Taiwan Regulator Warns Investment Scams Are Surging With Stock Rally
Taiwan’s stock-market rally and sharp price swings have drawn more retail investors, creating fertile ground for fraudsters. The Financial Supervisory Commission said common schemes include fake investment-platform apps, impersonation advertisements and cryptocurrency trading offers promising outsized returns. Victims may be persuaded to download software, transfer funds or disclose personal information before discovering that the platform and purported profits are fabricated.
The FSC received more than 6,000 reports of investment-scam advertisements on Google and Facebook during the second quarter, a rise it linked to heightened interest generated by volatile Taiwanese equities. The Securities and Futures Bureau said it would continue its rapid reporting and takedown procedures. Regulators also urged investors to verify whether platforms and operators are licensed before sending money, particularly when approached through unfamiliar apps or virtual-asset promotions.
