Taiwan Banks Add Record NT$1 Trillion in July Loans
Bank lending is a key gauge of corporate investment, working-capital demand and broader economic momentum in Taiwan. The latest surge was driven by funding needs across the AI, semiconductor and technology supply chains as companies stocked up on components and materials. A seasonal rush by listed companies to distribute dividends also intensified demand for short-term financing and cash management.
Taiwan’s Financial Supervisory Commission said domestic banks added more than NT$1 trillion in loans in July, the largest monthly increase on record. Total outstanding lending also reached an all-time high. Loans to private-sector companies, lending by overseas branches and working-capital credit were among the categories that set new records, bringing the number of record-breaking indicators to seven.
