White House Unveils National AI Framework to Unify U.S. Regulations

U.S. states have adopted a range of artificial intelligence regulations in recent years, creating inconsistent standards and raising compliance and operating costs for businesses active across state lines. The White House’s national policy framework calls on Congress and federal agencies to establish consistent rules, reduce regulatory fragmentation, promote AI innovation and strengthen the policy foundation for U.S. competition with China.

The White House released the National Artificial Intelligence Policy Framework on Friday, July 17, proposing federal legislative recommendations to replace conflicting state-level regulations. It focuses on protecting children, securing data centers, safeguarding creators’ intellectual property rights and preserving free speech. The framework is not yet formal law, and no related budget or clear legislative timetable has been announced.
