Africa Bitcoin Corporation Chair Says Bitcoin Is Everyday Currency in Parts of Africa
Many African countries have long faced high inflation, currency depreciation and limited access to financial services, making mobile technology a way to bypass barriers to traditional banking. For some communities, Bitcoin is not merely an inflation-resistant store of value but an everyday currency used for pricing and payments in satoshis. The shift shows how crypto assets are evolving locally from investments into payment infrastructure.
On March 3, 2026, Africa Bitcoin Corporation Executive Chairman Stafford Masie told Coin Stories that merchants would rather accept satoshis than dollars and that currencies can lose 4% to 5% of their value in a single afternoon. Chainalysis data showed that the region received more than $205 billion in onchain value from July 2024 through June 2025, up 52% year on year.
