OpenAI Launches Brazil Operations as AI Adoption Surges

Brazil has become one of ChatGPT’s three largest markets by weekly active users and ranks second worldwide by the number of developers using the OpenAI API. The scale makes the country an important test of whether rapid consumer adoption can translate into productivity, local innovation and public-service gains. A RegLab study funded by OpenAI estimates artificial intelligence could add nearly 1 trillion reais to Brazil’s economy by 2030, provided access is matched by skills, research and responsible deployment.

OpenAI said on Aug. 27, 2026, it had launched commercial operations in Brazil, with a São Paulo-based team serving companies, developers, researchers and public institutions. Brazilian ChatGPT users nearly doubled over the past year and now send about 215 million messages a day, while ChatGPT Enterprise seats rose fivefold year on year. Since the start of 2026, weekly Codex users in Brazil have increased more than elevenfold and daily interactions nearly thirtyfold. The company also unveiled initiatives with ITA, IMPA, HCFMUSP, ENTER, Estímulo and the city of São Paulo.
