Microsoft Unveils Project Solara, an Agent-First AI Platform With Concept Devices
Microsoft unveiled Project Solara at Build 2026, centered on using the Microsoft Device Ecosystem Platform, or MDEP, to create an “agent-first” device ecosystem. The initiative is designed to embed AI agents more deeply in enterprise devices and applications, moving them beyond responding to commands toward autonomously executing workflows.
Project Solara formally debuted in 2026. Microsoft also partnered with MediaTek and Qualcomm to develop concept hardware designed specifically for AI agents, demonstrating how MDEP can connect chips, devices and enterprise services. Microsoft has not announced a launch date, pricing or planned investment. For now, the focus remains on the platform vision and prototype validation.
