BitMart Weighs Restructuring and Partial Restart
Crypto exchange BitMart is reconsidering plans to wind down through a full liquidation less than a month after announcing its shutdown. A restructuring could preserve parts of the business while establishing a process for returning assets and paying creditors, making the outcome important for customers seeking access to funds. The proposal will also test whether the platform can restore operations and confidence after its abrupt closure.
BitMart said it is actively developing a potential restructuring plan and has appointed White & Case as legal counsel. The exchange is considering a phased restart of selected operations alongside asset distributions and creditor repayments. It pledged to publish an updated roadmap by September 9, but has not disclosed the total assets available for distribution, expected recovery rates or a firm date for resuming services.

The history behind this eventBitMart Begins Wind-Down, Plans 2027 Shutdown
BitMart’s planned closure underscores the risks facing customers of centralized cryptocurrency exchanges, which hold assets on users’ behalf and control access to trading and withdrawals. The platform is the second crypto exchange in three days to announce it will cease operations, adding to concerns about the sector’s resilience under market, regulatory and operating pressures. An orderly wind-down is critical because any disruption to withdrawals could affect customers’ ability to recover funds held on the exchange.
BitMart said in July 2026 that it had begun a phased wind-down, including suspending new registrations and trading services, ahead of a formal shutdown expected in early 2027. Withdrawals remain available, and the exchange urged users to remove their assets as soon as possible. Reports indicated withdrawal processing appeared to slow after the announcement, though no specific delay figures were disclosed. BitMart also did not provide the number of affected customers or the value of assets remaining on the platform.
