Nothing Confirms Layoffs, Denies Market Exits and Launches AI Unit
London-based consumer electronics company Nothing has built its profile as a design-led challenger in the crowded smartphone market. Its operating footprint and sales trajectory have drawn scrutiny as smaller handset brands contend with intense competition and rising costs. The restructuring is significant because it pairs a more centralized regional model with a dedicated AI-native business unit, signaling where Nothing plans to focus its next phase of growth.
Nothing co-founder Akis Evangelidis said on July 24, 2026, that the company was not closing operations in 12 markets, rejecting the claim as “fake news.” He confirmed that a reorganization had affected certain positions but said reports of a 40% workforce reduction were greatly overstated. Nothing will consolidate country operations into regional hubs and establish an AI-native unit. Evangelidis also said Phone (4b) sold 29,537 units on its first day.
