Core DAO Plans Emergency Hard Fork Over Excess Validator Rewards
Core DAO, an Ethereum-compatible layer-1 blockchain, uses its CORE token to reward validators that help secure the network. The discovery that some validators claimed more rewards than intended raises questions about the protocol’s reward calculations, token issuance and the fairness of validator incentives. A rapid fix is important because any flaw affecting emissions can undermine confidence in network governance and the integrity of the token’s supply.
Core DAO is coordinating an emergency hard fork designed as a forward-only upgrade, meaning previously confirmed transactions will not be reversed. The project said the incident was under control and user assets remained safe, though it had not disclosed how many CORE tokens were overpaid. Coinbase, Bithumb and other cryptocurrency exchanges suspended CORE transfers, deposits and withdrawals while awaiting completion of the network upgrade and confirmation that normal operations could safely resume.
