Architect Labs Uses AI to Design Redwood Chip in Two Weeks

Chip development typically requires large engineering teams to spend months or years moving from architecture and circuit design through verification. Architect Labs is seeking to automate parts of that process with artificial intelligence, a shift that could lower the cost and technical barriers to custom silicon and allow companies to build specialized computing hardware on much shorter timelines.

Architect Labs said it completed the design and verification of a chip called Redwood in just two weeks with the help of AI, sharply compressing the conventional development cycle. The chip can already run large language models including Meta’s Llama and Alibaba’s Qwen, according to the company, offering an early test of its vision for a highly automated, potentially “designless” era of custom chip development.
