SoftBank Partners With OpenAI on AI Cybersecurity Service for Critical Infrastructure

Japan's critical infrastructure faces new risks from generative AI that can automatically identify vulnerabilities, create malware and launch attacks. SoftBank Group has therefore partnered with OpenAI to bring advanced AI capabilities for cyberattack and defense into corporate cybersecurity, targeting financial institutions, power companies and public transportation operators. The move also reflects Masayoshi Son's warning that an AI “Black Ship” is approaching.

SoftBank Group recently announced plans to launch the AI cybersecurity service with OpenAI in Japan by the end of 2026, helping critical-infrastructure companies counter highly sophisticated cyberattacks. The company also plans to expand its workforce of relevant technical specialists to 1,000. It has not yet disclosed the service's price, the investment amount or an exact launch date.
