F2Pool Founder Opposes BIP-54 but Pledges to Honor Majority

BIP-54, known as “Consensus Cleanup,” is a proposed Bitcoin consensus-layer soft fork combining four fixes for long-standing weaknesses: the Timewarp attack, worst-case block-validation delays, Merkle tree vulnerabilities and duplicate transactions. Its specification reached version 1.0.0 on May 22, 2026. Support from mining pools matters because any BIP-9-style rollout would use miner signaling over 2,016-block adjustment periods to coordinate activation.

F2Pool co-founder Chun Wang has reiterated his opposition to BIP-54, arguing that packaging several historical edge-case fixes into a single upgrade is unjustified. F2Pool will therefore withhold signaling for now. Wang said, however, that the pool would upgrade its nodes and comply if the proposal secured an absolute majority under a BIP-9 process. BIP-54’s mainnet activation mechanism and exact signaling threshold have yet to be finalized.
