Deposit Speed Emerges as New Battleground for FinTech Platform Loyalty

2 reports · First detected 2026-03-27 · Last active 2026-04-03

Competition between banks and FinTech platforms is shifting from interest rates and rewards to how quickly funds reach customers’ accounts. PYMNTS Intelligence, Ingo Payments and WorkWhile said platforms are more likely to become users’ default choice for spending, saving and borrowing when wages or gig income arrive sooner, creating opportunities to cross-sell lending, payment and investment services.

Analyses published by PYMNTS on March 27 and April 3, 2026, found that 54% of “Labor Economy” workers had needed to cover basic expenses before receiving income at least once in the previous 90 days, while 16% had faced the problem at least four times in one quarter. A 0.81% decline in wages was estimated to reduce annualized consumer spending by $14 billion. SoFi had attracted about $37 billion in deposits by the end of 2025, while existing members opened 40% of its new products.
