Taiwan Teams Up With Meta, Google to Fight AI-Generated Scams
Generative AI is making it faster and cheaper for fraud networks to produce convincing text, images and advertisements at scale, challenging enforcement systems that rely on user reports and post-publication takedowns. Taiwan’s Ministry of Digital Affairs is working with four major online platforms, including Meta and Google, to move fraud controls closer to the source and stop deceptive content before it reaches users.
The ministry said on September 1 that it had established an intelligence-sharing mechanism with the four platforms. Emerging patterns in AI-generated scams are being converted into training data for detection models and into new screening rules. Officials said the approach has substantially reduced the volume of scam advertisements, though the reports did not disclose a percentage decline, platform-level figures or the names of the other two participating companies.
