OpenAI and Samsung Sign Largest-Ever Enterprise ChatGPT Deployment Deal
In May 2023, Samsung Electronics banned the use of generative AI on company devices and internal networks after employees entered sensitive information, including internal source code, into ChatGPT. Its shift to ChatGPT Enterprise, which provides data protection, access management and security controls, marks a move from a blanket ban to enterprise governance. It also elevates AI into a core platform for research and development, manufacturing and operations.
OpenAI and Samsung Electronics announced a partnership on June 21, 2026, giving all Samsung employees in South Korea and employees across its global Device eXperience (DX) division access to ChatGPT Enterprise and Codex for research and development, manufacturing and marketing. OpenAI called it one of its largest enterprise deployments to date; the contract value and number of seats were not disclosed. Codex weekly active users in South Korea have grown by nearly 800% since February 1, while its global weekly user base exceeds 5 million.
