Microsoft Acquires Fintool to Bolster Financial AI Agents in Microsoft 365
Nicolas Bustamante and Edouard Godfrey founded Fintool in San Francisco to serve institutional clients including hedge funds, asset managers and investment banks. Its technology can analyze financial statements and earnings-call transcripts and generate research reports. Microsoft aims to bring specialized financial expertise into Microsoft 365 through the acquisition, reducing the risks of hallucinations and misjudgments by general-purpose generative AI in financial analysis.
Fintool CEO Nicolas Bustamante confirmed on April 17, 2026, that Microsoft had completed the acquisition. The price and terms were not disclosed. Fintool launched V5 in January 2026, enabling users to build DCF models, PowerPoint earnings presentations and Word research memos in the background. Its team and technology will join Microsoft's Office product division to strengthen financial AI agent capabilities in applications including Excel.
