Meta’s Facebook AI Search and Use of Muse Spark Draw Privacy Complaint

2 reports · First detected 2026-06-16 · Last active 2026-06-16

Meta has integrated generative AI search into Facebook, using its Muse Spark model to synthesize information from public posts, Groups and Reels and provide users with consolidated answers. Because the data may also be used for model training and ad personalization, an EU privacy advocacy group alleges that the practice violates the purpose-limitation principle under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). The case could determine whether platforms may repurpose personal data collected for existing uses.

As of July 20, 2026, Meta has formally launched Facebook AI Search, which compiles public information from across the platform and generates summaries. The reliability of its content, source attribution and handling of personal data remain under scrutiny. A complaint has been filed with the EU regulatory system, but no penalty, amount at issue or enforcement timetable has been announced. Meta must also explain the legal basis for using data in model training and ad personalization.

Meta Launches Multimodal AI Model Muse Spark Across Social Platforms and Smart Glasses2026-06-04 · 11 reports · similarity 0.81

Meta built its open-source AI profile with the Llama series, but is now introducing Muse Spark from Meta Superintelligence Labs, a multimodal model designed to process text and images. The model will be integrated into Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp and smart glasses, signaling a shift toward a product-first strategy and commercial applications.

Muse Spark was formally unveiled after three delays. As of July 19, 2026, its API was available only to invited developers in preview and the model had not been open-sourced. Meta has not yet disclosed API pricing, model parameters or the amount invested, but has confirmed that Muse Spark will strengthen Meta AI’s reasoning capabilities and extend into personal-assistant services for areas including health and shopping.
