DeFi Yield Strategies Buckle in $13 Billion April Drawdown

1 reports · First detected 2026-08-19 · Last active 2026-08-19

Decentralized-finance yields are not equivalent to risk-free interest: returns can stem from borrower demand, trading fees, token incentives or leveraged strategies. David Plisek of Solstice Finance said headline annual percentage yields alone reveal little about how a product will withstand market stress, making the source and durability of returns central considerations for capital allocators.

Plisek attributed the DeFi market’s heavy losses in spring 2026 primarily to failed yield strategies rather than hacks, pointing to a $13 billion drawdown in April. He said allocators should answer four core questions before committing funds, including where the yield originates, who ultimately bears the risk, how the strategy behaves under severe stress and whether investors can exit when liquidity deteriorates.
