On-Chain Investigator ZachXBT Sets Five Criteria for Taking Crypto Cases
ZachXBT has long used public on-chain data to trace stolen crypto assets and funds linked to scams. With a high volume of requests and limited individual investigative resources, his criteria determine which victims can receive assistance. The new thresholds are intended to prioritize higher-value cases that are viable from legal and technical standpoints, while smaller investors can first verify transaction records through blockchain explorers such as Etherscan.
On July 6, 2026, ZachXBT posted five criteria on X: the incident must be recent, a single victim’s losses must exceed $250,000, the jurisdiction must be conducive to an investigation, the case must involve a blockchain he can support, and it must not involve memecoins or prediction markets. He said he would neither take nor respond to cases that fail to meet all five criteria.
